I went out of town for a few days and set my computer to download about 10 days work. Looking at my tasks now, I still have 44 due on the 15th and there's no way they'll all complete on time. On the 15th, should I abort any that are past due? Will the server abort them?

You should abort them asap and just let someone else crunch them. The Server, nor Boinc itself, will abort them, you just won't get any credit for crunching them. If you abort them they will just go back into the queue and be reissued to someone else and you will get new units to crunch.
